This is coming from the fellows over at Comic Book Movie and the LA Times….
“A federal judge said Monday that he was unable to decide whether 20th Century Fox controls rights to the movie that Warner Bros. has produced and plans to release March 9, leaving open the possibility that the dispute between the studios could be tried Jan. 20.
U.S. District Court Judge Gary Feess told lawyers for Fox and Warners that a series of 1990s contracts between Fox and “Watchmen” producer Larry Gordon are so open to interpretation that he could not render a pre-trial judgment for either party, as the lawyers had requested.
Fox sued Warners in February, arguing that Gordon — who once ran Fox — assigned Warners “Watchmen” rights he didn’t possess. Warners maintains that Fox holds no copyright on the movie, which is adapted by director Zack Snyder (”300″) from the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.”
What Bobby Bless Thinks: After reading about these legal qualms for months (and rumors that Snyder decided to change the ending), I’m starting to lose interest in this movie. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the graphic novel and have a great respect Alan Moore (after League of Extremely Shitty Gentlemen came out, he refuses to have his name on any of the films adapted from his works) and Dave Gibbons, but this is just getting annoying now.
Quick note for comic fans: Alan Moore has stated in interviews that the only script that has come closest to his graphic novel was written by David Hayter (the man who voices Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid).

Honestly, I don’t see how The Watchmen could make a solid movie anyway with so many characters and subplots, unless they really strip it down.
